Beyond The Scale Princples Beyond the Scale is an innovative program for weight loss, positive self-esteem and body image, and self-care. It is not a conventional diet, and is grounded in principles which undergird behavioral changes and living well and fit. I. Caring for one's body is an extension of one's belief that the body and good health are gifts deserving attention and affirmation. II. Eating is for physical nourishment, and is meant to be enjoyed when it is kept in proper balance with other ways we are nourished. III. Eating the "right foods" is accomplished by paying attention to how one feels after eating particular foods and whether or not one's goals are being met. IV. Eating should be done while sitting down, with no distractions, enjoying how the food looks, smells, feels and tastes. V. Movement burns fat and energy which assists in weight loss and contributes to enhanced well-being. Adding movement in small increments will increase confidence, and enable it to become integral to one's lifestyle. VI. The ability to make changes in one's life with regard to eating, movement, etc. involves a variety of levels of conscious and unconscious will, desire, and motivation. Connection with one's direct experience of feelings will enhance success and reduce the effort often associated with self-care and life change. VII. Eating nutritionally rich foods will increase success.
